In Class Video

Tha video we watched im class thursday was insightful. It really shows how much kids seek other peoples approval using their online personas.  But somebody pointed it out during the video, how low is your self esteem that your going to kill yourself because someone online tells you to??? I mean how much dumber does it get to end your life cause some girl says it would be hot? As sad as it is……you have to be joking.

Its time to put blame where it always should be…….parents. How can you not I mean really? There are 1,000 ways for a parent to block off internet sites. No kid knows how to get around all of them. You might say as a parent “But I dont know anything about computers??” SIMPLE ANSWER = HIRE SOMEONE.  I know easy out for a college kid right? Well its true, part of having a kid is taking responsibility for things they do right?? I think…..right?

Anywho let me guess how this all got started.  We all used aim in middle school and since kids this age really didnt want to be on the internet searching for current events to write their homework on they found other outlets like myspace and even xanga (who had one of those really be honest?) It was an easy way to show and tell your friends what you were up to without direct contact. Parents are sitting there going “There are worse things my kid could be doing” (see my header picture???). Now all of a sudden they flip on the news and go “Dear God, internet = bad!!”, then they finally go upstairs to check on their kid who they havent had a face to face conversation with since they were in elementary school and low and behold – my 14 year old daughter is posing as an 18 year old goth model wearing about 5.3% of all the clothes she should be and there are about 10,000 comments saying “Oh baby thats hot cant wait to see you” and “Where do you live I would love to shoot you sometime” (SEE what I did there with that last one????? Case and point…….too late mommy and daddy.
